Cal's Unheralded Recruit Is Now An NBA Prospect

Coming out of high school, Cal's Ryan Anderson flew below the radar at Oak Ridge High in El Dorado Hills. But now, even before his freshman campaign is over, Anderson is being dropped in draft talk as a potential late first-rounder. Anderson is currently the front runner for the rookie-of-the-year award in the toughest conference in the nation, the Pac 10. He is the only freshman to be ranked in the top-5 for both points (16.9 ppg) and rebounds (8.3 rpg). Scouts say Anderson needs to improve his lateral quickness, and it is for that reason that he will stick around at Cal for at least another season.

I bet this happens a ton. There is a lot of young talent out there, and there is no way the NBA can track it all without seeing them play in college.
