Dec. 8 Cleveland State (6-2) at N.C. State (5-2) When: 1 p.m. Full Court Press: The Wolfpack return to its old home on campus, Reynolds Coliseum, to take on a Vikings team that has beaten three MAC clubs so far but lost to Michigan by 30 and Robert Morris by 9. The Pack is coming off a nice win over UConn and cant let up. This game is important to develop chemistry and leadership, which senior forward Richard Howell says is his responsibility. Pick: N.C. State, 77-61. South Carolina St. (4-4) at Maryland (7-1) When: 2 p.m. Full Court Press: Two of the Bulldogs wins have been over Division II teams and their losses have been to teams of little significance. Maryland will win, its just a matter of how the Terrapins go about it. Pick: Maryland, 86-58. St. Francis, NY (2-4) at Boston College (3-5) When: 2 p.m. Full Court Press: Well, the Terriers dont seem capable of beating the Eagles based on already losing to the likes of Army and Albany, among others. BC has lost to Bryant and was blown out at home by Harvard, but BC should win this game, even if they are dealing with some injury issues. Pick: Boston College, 68-53. Duke (8-0) vs. Temple (6-0) When: 3:15 p.m. Full Court Press: The Owls are unbeaten but they havent really played anyone outside of Villanova, which has struggled. Temple is negative in rebounding margin and in turnover margin by nearly five per contest, so if Duke battles on the glass and bellies up defensively as it has, the Blue Devils will be in good shape. But keep in mind, Temple will fight, as all Fran Dunphy teams do, and has been the programs nature for years. But so will Duke, as thats one of this teams greatest qualities so far. Look for Ryan Kelly to have a big game for the Devils. Pick: Duke, 75-65. Mississippi Valley State (0-4) at Virginia (7-2) When: 4 p.m. Full Court Press: More mercenaries than a basketball team when you look at their schedule, the Delta Devils have been trounced at Ole Miss, Cincinnati, and LSU and lost by 13 at Northwestern. They wont beat the Cavaliers, but may try to force the pace some. It would be nice to see UVa run some. Pick: Virginia, 80-58. Virginia Tech (7-0) at West Virginia (3-3) When: 4 p.m. Full Court Press: It would be easy to pick the high-flying Hokies (fourth in the nation in scoring) to pick up the win over a struggling WVU team, even with the game in Morgantown. But the Mountaineers still have some players and are coached by Bob Huggins. But, they have lost badly to Gonzaga by 34 and to Oklahoma and Davidson. They barely beat Marshall a few nights ago. Erick Green (third in the nation in scoring) and company can really send a message and climb into the rankings by snagging this one, but something says Huggins team will rise up in this game. Pick: West Virginia, 84-77. Seton Hall (6-2) at Wake Forest (4-4) When: 7 p.m. Full Court Press: ACCBig East matchup, which have become rare in recent years. The problem for the ACC is that Wake is the leagues worst team and has not played well at home. Its best players are not living up to the billing, and one has to wonder how much spirit remains in the program. The Hall has lost to Washington and LSU. Pick: Seton Hall, 76-70. UNC Wilmington (4-4) at Georgia Tech (5-2) When: 7 p.m. Full Court Press: Buzz Petersons Seahawks arent even a shadow of the program that was quite relevant in the early-mid 2000s. But they have improved over last season, though a 38-point loss at Ohio and 26-point loss at Purdue dont support that theory. The Yellow Jackets have shown some promise and are coming off a win over rival Georgia. Tech is too long and athletic to lose this game. Pick: Georgia Tech, 70-55. East Tennessee State (2-4) at North Carolina (6-2) When: 7:30 p.m. Full Court Press: Despite being blown out twice and the subject of significant criticism, the Tar Heels are still 39th in the country in rebounding margin and are fifth in the ACC in field goal percentage defense at 38.2 percent. What UNC really needs is to find chemistry and for point guard Marcus Paige to become more of a true floor general and distributor. Pick: UNC, 91-66. Arizona (6-0) at Clemson (5-2) When: 8 p.m. Full Court Press: Clemson loves to prove it can defend, and the Wildcats offer a significant challenge. They have wins over UTEP, Long Beach State, Southern Miss, and at Texas Tech, and have been extremely efficient offensively in three of those victories. But Littlejohn should be rocking, as this is a terrific opportunity for the Tigers. Even if Clemson does defend well, whether or not it can score enough points to beat a team such as Arizona remains a question the team must answer. Pick: Arizona, 70-62. Dec. 9 Maine (3-5) at Florida State (4-4) When: 4 p.m. Full Court Press: If the Seminoles dont begin to find comfort with some rotations in this game the season may get very long. FSU is coming off a blowout home loss to Florida, but its talent, though mostly young, suggests it should be much better. Maine hasnt beaten anyone and shouldnt offer much resistance. Pick: Florida State, 75-55. Season record: 67-13
