When Kevin Ware watches his teammates on the Louisville Cardinals take the court in the above warm-ups at the Georgia Dome on Saturday for the team’s Final Four match-up with the Wichita State Shockers, at least 1,000 faces that look eerily familiar will be staring right back at him from the stands. In fact, not only will those faces be familiar, they will be his face. On signs. 1,000 of them. Kinda cool, in a creepy, somewhat disconcerting kind of way. But still, mostly pretty awesome. ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that after some behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing by Bryan Price, the founder of Build-A-Head, a company that custom-makes cardboard cutout heads frequently seen in the stands at sporting events, 1,000 Kevin Ware heads will be in the hands of Louisville fans on Saturday, thanks to a generous donation by New York Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire. The Louisville marketing team contacted Build-A-Head about the company making some Kevin Ware head-sign thingamajobbers, but upon learning that it would cost $2,500 to create 1,000 of the them, decided that was too rich of a price. Price stepped into action, contacting Stoudemire, who he somewhat knew after working with Amar’e's charity at one point, and the Knicks star agreed to pony up the cost to get 1,000 Kevin Ware heads to Atlanta. As a condition of Stoudemire’s involvement, not only will the back of the heads feature the hashtag #WinForWare, the signs will also bear the logo of Stoudemire’s foundation, so everybody wins. And nobody profits off it. Besides Build-A-Head, I guess, but in this situation, that seems to be acceptable.
