Miami center Reggie Johnson had surgery Tuesday to repair a minor meniscus issue, said a person familiar with the situation. Johnson did not accompany the Hurricanes to Washington on Tuesday night, though could play in the Final Four if Miami wins the East Regional this weekend, the person told The Associated Press because the school did not publicly disclose the surgery. Miami (29-6) plays Marquette (25-8) on Thursday in the East Regional semifinals. The winner of that game will meet either Indiana or Syracuse for a trip to Atlanta and the Final Four. In a statement, the university said Johnson was injured in last weekend's third-round game against Illinois. It was not immediately clear when Johnson was hurt in that game, and he was in the contest with 15 seconds remaining. He played 18 minutes in all against the Illini, and Miami won the game 63-59. Johnson has appeared in 26 games for Miami this season, starting nine. The 6-foot-10, 292-pound senior is averaging 6.7 poin...

Jim Larranaga dances like Muhammad Ali after Miami defeats Illinois (Video)

Miami Hurricanes men's basketball coach Jim Larranaga danced like legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in the locker room after Sunday's win over Illinois to reach the round of the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Larranaga was giving his postgame speech when he told his players "I asked you guys to be fighters. You know what I saw out there? Muhammad Ali!" Larranaga...

Miami upbeat about its Sweet 16 chances

Miami faces several major challenges moving forward in the NCAA tournament. First, Friday night's opponent in Washington, D.C., is the No. 3 seed in the East Region, Marquette. The Golden Eagles are well coached, physical and have proven they can beat top teams such as Wisconsin, Georgetown, Syracuse, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Marquette (25-8) is an experienced team, as its...

Julian Gamble photobombs Shane Larkin after win over Illinois

Miami Hurricanes’ Julian Gamble is up to his photobombing ways again.  During the ACC Tournament, Gamble photobombed his coach during an interview.  This time, Shane Larkin was being interviewed after The U beat Illinois and Gamble photobombed him.  Gamble has certainly perfected his method and I hope he continues to do this as the Hurricanes continue their NCAA Tournament...

The Pregnant Miami Hurricanes Cheerleader & More Screencaps!

Just asking a question: bloated or pregnant? When’s the last time you saw a Miami Hurricanes cheerleader looking like she needed some Gas-X softgels? Never, right? Of course we’ll get blasted by women for asking such a question, but it’s not like they’re not thinking the same thing we’re asking. Anyway, in other Florida basketball news, the Gators get to play a #14 seed...

Homecoming for Larranaga as Miami faces Marquette

Jim Larranaga smiled and raised both hands to acknowledge the fans in green - those from both Miami and George Mason - as he walked onto the court where he become part of a national sensation seven years ago. He signed autographs, posed for pictures and was about to turn his attention to practice when he spotted two special people: Lamar Butler and Tony Skinn, starters from the...

Happy Hour – Sweet 16 East and West Regions

This season’s Sweet Sixteen field is one of the most intriguing I can remember. I have a legitimate interest in all eight of the games. Tonight begins with most of the top seeds going against each other, and a battle of Cinderellas thrown in. Some of the storylines to watch are, can Jim Larranaga recapture the magic he found in 2006 in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 when he was last...

Injury dampens Miami's title bid

It was on the plane ride back from Austin, Texas, to south Florida earlier this week when Miami Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga got the big, bad news: Their fairy tale Sweet 16 run, Miami's first in 13 years, was now jeopardized by an injury. How big? About 6-foot-10 and 300 pounds. How bad? Miami's leading rebounder, senior center Reggie Johnson, had to have surgery on Tuesday...

ACC Morning Linkfest 3/28 with Game Sim Predictions

It's time for the sweet 16, finally!  The wait between the round of 32 and the sweet 16 is always a hard one.  There's such build up of great games, even moreso this year, followed by a 3 day wait.  Of course, ACC fans had Maryland and Virginia to follow.  While the Terps moved on with a win over Alabama on Tuesday, Virginia lost to Iowa in the NIT quarterfinals last...

Larranaga Loves March So Much

Two big bits of news this morning until JP comes through with today’s DMV a little bit later: 1. Our old friend Jim Larranaga seemed to be having a good time after his Miami Hurricanes advanced to the Sweet 16, where they’ll play in D.C. 2. George Mason is officially leaving the CAA for the A-10. Good for them, but probably bad for JMU.
