TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball is looking to revamp a roster that was four games under .500 last season. At the time of this writing, the Sun Devils are losing nine players from last year’s team. This includes a mix of players graduating and entering the transfer portal.

Arizona State basketball already added power-forward Basheer Jihad in the transfer portal last week, and they’re not done yet. The Sun Devils hosted a very talented four-star guard for a visit this weekend.

Arizona State basketball hosts Alston Mason on visit

Alston Mason averaged 17.5 points per game last season for Missouri State. 247 Sports ranks him as a four-star transfer prospect, sitting at No. 148 overall (out of roughly 2,000 players in the portal), and the No. 28 point guard in the portal.

Mason has one remaining season of eligibility. The guard spent his freshman season at Oklahoma before transferring to Missouri State.

Mason, as mentioned above, is a talented scorer. It’s not easy to average 17.5 points per game, especially in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Missouri Valley is typically regarded as one of the top mid-major conferences in the country. Mason also averaged three rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game. He shot 42% from the field and 35% from three last season.

The junior guard had his career-high this season against arguably Missouri’s State toughest competition. Mason scored 36 points, shooting 46% from the field and hitting five threes, against Drake. Drake would go on to make the NCAA Tournament as a 10 seed and won 28 games. Missouri State upset the Bulldogs behind Mason’s big night.

With the departure of Frankie Collins, ASU needs scoring and shooting, Mason provides that.
