Sai Tummala, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound standout at Brophy Prep and Salt Lake Community College, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Arizona State. He will have three years of eligibility, starting in 2013-14. Tummala is a forward who is known for exceptional shooting range. He shot 41 percent from 3-point range in his one season at Salt Lake CC, averaging 14.5 points per game and earning third-team junior college All-America honors for a team that went 29-5. He signed out of high school with Michigan and redshirted for a season before transferring to Salt Lake CC. BYU, Minnesota and Georgia were among the schools recruiting him after a strong finish to his junior college season. Tummala is one of five newcomers for ASU coach Herb Sendek next season, joining transfers Richie Edwards (Valparaiso) and Brandan Kearney (midseason, Michigan State) and incoming freshmen Chance Murray and Egor Koulechov. "We are excited to welcome Sai to our program," ASu coach Herb Sendek said. "He was really good last year and has proven he can make shots, and also is an outstanding athlete and great student. "We all watched Carrick Felix develop over his three-year career, so when you sign a transfer and he has three years to play, that is an amazing advantage. We are excited to get him on campus and get to work. As a senior at Brophy in 2010-11, Tummala averaged 17.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocks while helping his team to a state runner-up finish.
