MADISON, Wis. With election day less than five weeks away, the campaigns for this country's presidential candidates are heating up. In keeping with that theme, one member of Wisconsin's men's basketball team is doing some campaigning of his own. Only his cause is strictly about hoops. President Barack Obama, an avid basketball aficionado, is scheduled to speak Thursday in Madison, the day after his first Presidential debate with Mitt Romney. Wisconsin forward Zach Bohannon is hoping to persuade Obama to stay for a game of pick-up basketball at the Kohl Center. Bohannon, a transfer from Air Force, has been using his Twitter account to entice the President. On Tuesday, Bohannon first tweeted to his 540 followers: "@BarackObama, Sir, the Wisconsin bball team extends an offer 2 play open gym on Thursday before or after ur talk. Badgers RETWEET 4 support!" It had been retweeted 135 times by Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Other Bohannon tweets directed at Obama include: -- "Sir, if u want Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes, you'll come play w the Badgers! The ball (literally) is in your court!" -- "Sir, I know you're preparing for your debate, but what you can't debate is how fun playing hoops with the Badgers would be!" -- "Sir, Wisconsin is a swing state? We can teach you how we run the Badgers swing offense!" There's no word on whether Obama will accept the offer, but it wouldn't be the first time he suited up against college basketball players. In April 2008, Obama scrimmaged with North Carolina's men's basketball team while he was campaigning for a first term as president. The Tar Heels went on to win the national championship the next season. Follow Jesse Temple on Twitter.
