Tyler Haws scored 28 points and Matt Carlino added 22 to lead BYU to an 81-72 win over in-state rival Weber State Friday night. Despite BYU leads of 19 points in the first half and 20 in the second half, The Wildcats would not quit. Down 44-33 at halftime, Weber State clawed back early with multiple baskets by Jeremy Senglin to pull within six at 46-40 with almost 18 minutes remaining in the game. The Cougars responded with a 15-1 run capped by a Carlino's basket with 12:58 remaining to push the lead back to 61-41. Kyle Collinsworth scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Haws led BYU with 13 boards. Kyle Tresnak led Weber State with 24 points while Berry scored 23, most of which came in the second half. Also in double figures were Senglin and Bolomboy with 14 and 11 respectively. Bolomboy also pulled down 13 rebounds. Weber State's Davion Berry, who scored only six in the first half, responded to the Cougar run by scoring eight straight including two 3-pointers to get the Wildcats back in the game at 61-49 with 11:51 remaining. The Cougars answered again with seven straight of their own to push the lead back to 68-49. The Wildcats stayed away from the blowout, but couldn't pull any closer than nine on Berry's basket with 1:08 remaining, which provided the final margin. In the first half, BYU jumped ahead early and led 17-3 when Haws hit two free throws with 13:02 left in the half. The Cougars took their largest lead of the half at 35-16 when Haws hit a 3-pointer to cap a 9-0 Cougar run with 6:16 left before the break. The basket was one of Haws' 14 first half points. The Wildcats fought back though and cut the lead to 44-33 at halftime on back-to-back baskets by Joel Bolomboy. BYU shot 44 percent to Weber State's 39 percent and the Cougars also had the advantage on the boards at 46-40.
