NEW ORLEANS - MARCH 20: Coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats talks to his team during the second round of the 2010 NCAA men's basketball tournament at the New Orleans Arena on March 20, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Dave Martin/Getty Images)
College coaches are going around the country right now, chasing the best talent in high school basketball. John Calipari has done this better than anyone in recent memory. A #1 recruiting class is now the norm with Calipari always sending his highly talented crops of players to the NBA. On Saturday night, you would have been able to spot John Calipari in Orlando watching a talented 2015 shooting guard named Luke Kennard. Take a look at the video below and watch his game. The kid has a very nice release, smooth jump shot, and has no problems taking the ball to the basket. He can finish with contact, and has the size at 6’5” to be a match-up nightmare. Initially, I saw this video and instantly thought of a shorter version of recent Kentucky transfer Kyle Wiltjer. We’ve already went through this before, why would John Calipari do this again? Kennard’s foot-speed appears to be a little slow, but the more I watched the more I wanted him at Kentucky. I had to remind myself he is a 2015 recruit first of all. He’ll have plenty of time to get stronger and improve his footwork. He appears to be more agile and crafty than Kyle Wiltjer, so I’ll retract most of my comparison. Kennard is a 6’5” shooting guard from Franklin, Ohio. He is rated as the #1 shooting guard in the 2015 class, 2nd best player in his state, and a 4-star recruit. Kennard currently has interest from schools like Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana.
