Cincinnati got off to a horrible start against Georgetown in today's 62-43 Big East tournament loss, and they ended the game with a terrible finish. Duh, they lost by 19 points. The Bearcats went on a run in the middle of the game to erase a 16 point deficit and take a 2 point lead. The lead didn't last long. Just like in the first meeting, Cincinnati recovered from a big hole, took the lead, but didn't have what it took to close out the Hoyas. They are just too good.  There were a few things that really haunted UC in this game. The offense was too reliant on the 3 point shot. They missed a ton early. They made a lot in the middle. Then they didn't get 3 point attempts late. The offense is unsustainable game to game. It's unsustainable segment to segment. What also hurt the offense were the turnovers. UC turned it over 9 times in the first half. They turned it over 5 times during the stretch the Hoyas pulled away. It's not rocket science. This team can't win when they give away possessions. They don't shoot the ball well enough for that.  The defense was not very good. There are times when UC sped the Hoyas up and were able to get steals. They got over-aggressive and that ended up hurting them because Georgetown is very good at offense. The Hoyas had an offensive efficiency of 112. That's some bad defense.  The final thing was the officiating. It was poor for both teams. But it was especially poor on UC's end during the portion of the game the Hoyas built up their 16 point lead. The Bearcats were called for some garbage fouls, like when Justin Jackson got elbowed in the face and called for a foul, and they got in foul trouble. The Cats played terribly during this time as well, but it was a double whammy that really hurt the Cats. For an example, there was no call on this play.  Cashmere Wright was 5-8, 4-5 from 3, for 14 points. He had all of his points by the 16:23 mark. He attempted 1 meaningless shot after that. The Hoyas played him tough, but you want him to take over. At least he is playing well. That is a good sign for next week. JaQuon Parker added 12 on 3-6, 2-3, 4-4 FTs. Sean Kilpatrick was not very good. He had just 4 on 2-12. He was 0-8 from 3. It was his lowest scoring game of the season. It was the fewest points he's scored in the last 2 years.  Just like the Louisville game, the Hoyas dominated the final 15 minutes. UC is a 10 seed on the bracket matrix. Assuming they win their opening game, which will be very tough against a similar type of team, they are going to have to play an elite team. That  hasn't been a good formula for Cincinnati in 2013. This team could have 1 game or 6 games left. It's up to them how far they go.  Goodbye, Big East.  I'll have more tomorrow. Box score via SI.
