We've all heard that the best offense is a good defense.

That saying is probably going to lose Clemson a lot of games this year.

Who is going to finally step up and score some points for this historically low-scoring Tiger basketball team?  Brad Brownell has the defense clicking but seems to have forgotten the other myriad facets of the game.  Rebounding, free throws and point blank lay-ups are just a few items that Clemson needs to work on.

Furman exploded to a 9-0 lead in, causing Clemson to have to claw their way out of a 20 minute long hole.  After missing several gimmes from the paint Clemson finally tied the score 24-24 at the half.

Clemson gained the lead early in the second half and although they never relinquished that lead, they never nailed the game shut either.  Milton Jennings had a career high 22 points and 14 rebounds and Andre Young scored 15 leaving 22 points to be spread out among the rest of the players who saw time on the court.  That is simply not enough points.

While Furman played a solid game, they are a far cry from North Carolina or Duke both of whom Clemson will face soon.

On Tuesday Clemson begins a three game stretch against Iowa, South Carolina and Arizona.  After that gauntlet we should know quite a bit more about this team.

If they don't figure out how to put points on the board it is going to be a long season.
