This morning on the Duke Basketball Report, a daily radio segment where Bob Harris interviews Coach Mike Krzyzewski, the topic was injuries and health. Obviously, Ryan Kelly is out indefinitely and Krzyzewski addressed the lack of a time frame put on Ryan’s recovery. You can listen to the full interview here. With Ryan, it’s really an indefinite period of time and we’re not trying to be evasive or anything like that. We don’t know. If we knew, we would put a time frame on it. When you don’t know and you put a time frame on it, you create pressure that shouldn’t be created. This is perfectly reasonable, and I don’t see any reason why there should be a definitive time set on Ryan’s return. He’ll return when he’s healthy. Coach K went on to give more information regarding the rehab process. He’s on crutches not because [he] needs to be on crutches because [he's] so hurt, but to reduce stress in his foot. That helps the healing process. He’s in a boot, not a cast, because he can then w

Coach K rips Maryland for conference change

Legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski ripped Maryland for leaving the ACC to go to Big Ten.

Coach K says Maryland are outsiders, rips realignment

The four-time national champion and winningest coach in Division I history, Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski used his SiriusXM radio show to let his feelings be known about Maryland's move to the Big Ten. “If you’re running a business for a long time, you would be interested primarily in what is your brand,” Krzyzewski continued. “For us, we have a good...

Curry Injures Ankle But Likely To Play

(Chuck Liddy/Raleigh News & Observer)According to the Raleigh News & Observer: Seth Curry suffered a slight left ankle sprain in Saturday's loss to N.C. State, but he should be ready to go for Duke's next game, head coach Mike Krzyzewski said on the weekly ACC coaches teleconference.Curry slipped on a wet spot on the floor and crumpled to the ground in pain with 3...

Duke faces decisions after loss to Wolfpack

So where does Duke go from here? The top-ranked team in the land a week ago, the Blue Devils now find themselves looking up in the ACC standings and without one of their best players, Ryan Kelly, for the foreseeable future. And while the Devils gave a warrior-like effort in Saturdays 84-76 loss at NC State, the absence of Kelly was obvious, especially late in the game when Duke...

Duke suffers first loss of the season to NC State 84-76

By Josh Evans – C.J. Leslie and Richard Howell made sure that Duke did not come into their arena and leave with a win. Leslie scored 25 points, and looked for most of the game like a National Player of the Year candidate. Richard Howell scored 16 points, and 18 rebounds with most of his rebounds coming in the second half after Duke surprisingly dominated the glass in the first...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 16 Edition

By Duke of Hoops – While Duke fell to #3 in the polls following their loss to NC State over the weekend, two teams moved ahead of the Blue Devils – Louisville and Indiana. In the Cardinals’ first game as a #1 team in the regular season, they were behind UCONN for much of the first half before pulling away. Indiana was not as lucky, going down to Wisconsin at Assembly Hall....

Georgia Tech-Duke Preview

Already without one key player, Duke is confident another one can play through his injury when it tries to bounce back from its first loss. The third-ranked Blue Devils expect guard Seth Curry to play Thursday night when they look to get back on track and continue their dominance over visiting Georgia Tech, the only ACC team without a league win. Playing its first game minus 6...

Coach K Blasts Maryland

via Washington Post: This discussion came on Krzyzewski’s SiriusXM radio show, “Basketball and Beyond.” And it followed a news report on the show by Chris Spatola, who argued that Maryland’s decision to leave the ACC was made by newcomers to College Park, and lacked an appreciation for the tradition of the ACC. As you can see below, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski felt strongly about...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 15 Edition

By Duke of Hoops – After Duke lost to NC State on Saturday, it was certain they would lose their #1 ranking. Then Michigan went and lost to Ohio State the next day. That put some doubt in the heads of some AP voters that Duke should fall from the top spot. CBS Sports’ Jeff Goodman and Gary Parrish in particular were vocal that Louisville should not jump Duke in the standings...

Quinn Cook carrying on long tradition of Duke point guard success

By Adrian Cubbage – In 1947, Bob “the Harrisburg Houdini” Davies became the first point guard to win the NBA MVP.  Ten years later, Bob Cousy duplicated the feat by being the next small man to win the highest award in a “tall man’s league”.  What was established moving forward was the realization that in order to be successful in basketball, somebody has to deliver...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 14 Edition

By Duke Of Hoops – The Duke Basketball season is not over, but their undefeated streak is after falling to NC State in Raleigh on Saturday. The defense was definitely missing Ryan Kelly, as CJ Leslie scored big baskets when they were needed and Duke was not able to keep the lead they established late in the first half. Moving forward, there were some positive signs from the game...

Is it Time To Change Duke

One of the interesting questions that I took out of Duke’s 84-76 loss to NC State, their first of the season, was whether or not it might be time for Mike Krzyzewski to tweak his starting lineup. Seth Curry’s most recent injury could be one of several things that could have Mike Krzyzewski thinking about making some changes. Now something as major as a lineup change isn’t...
