Most people who know basketball know that the in-state rivalry between the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals is pretty intense, and with the two teams meeting in Saturday’s National Semifinal with a trip to the National Championship game on the line, the antagonism between the warring fanbases is ramping up.  But there has to be a limit to how far UK and UofL fans are willing to take their dislike for each other, and I think fighting while receiving dialysis treatment may just be that limit.

On Monday police had to be called to a Georgetown Dialysis Clinic after a a UK fan was punched by a UofL fan when the two disagreed over who would win the Battle for the Bluegrass redux on Saturday.  Why didn’t the Wildcats fan, one Ed Wilson, punch Cards fan Charles Taylor after Taylor hit him in the face?  Well, he would have, except he was hooked up to his dialysis machine at the time.

I’ll take “Things You Don’t See Everyday at a Dialysis Clinic” for $400, Alex.

From WKYT…

Officers were called after a UK and UofL fan gave each other a full court press during treatment at the Georgetown Dialysis Clinic Monday.

“He just happened to think UofL would beat UK and he started to run his mouth,” explained dialysis patient Ed Wilson. Wilson also happens to be a self-proclaimed die hard UK fan. “That’s what started it.”

But Charles Taylor, who was waiting to get hooked up to a machine saw things differently. “I didn’t talk to him about the ball game; I was talking to another guy about the game,” The UofL fan exclaimed. “He was meddling. And told me to shut up and gave me the finger!”

UK fan Wilson explained “I’m sitting there hooked up to a machine and I can’t do anything.”

So, offended by Wilson, Taylor took action. “I went up to him and I hit him, ” he said. “Didn’t hit him that hard, but I hit him.”

Duke-UNC fans ain’t got nothing on these guys.

One punch does not a fight make, and the cops have since closed the case.  Wilson has no plans on pressing charges against Taylor, choosing instead to exact revenge vicariously through his beloved Cats, so long as they secure a victory on Saturday.
