East Lansing Police released the report detailing the April 3 arrest of Michigan State basketball player Derrick Nix.  The junior was found to have 0.6 grams of marijuana on him that was confiscated.  He informed police that he had smoked earlier in the night and subsequently tested positive for marijuana via a blood test.

Nix was pulled over at 12:20 a.m. after making a left turn at a red light from Lake Lansing Road onto Abbot Road in East Lansing.  The police administered two field sobriety tests, both of which Nix failed.  He was unable to maintain his balance for the required amount of time and skipped both 88 and 80 when asked to count backwards from 91 to 78.  He was taken to Sparrow Hospital for the blood test before being taken to jail.

Nix was charged with operating under the influence of a controlled substance and marijuana possession.  A pre-trial hearing is the next step.  Another key factor in this case, as far as Michigan State basketball goes, is that Nix was driving a 2011 red Dodge Charger registered to a Barbara Pettway of Detroit.  Their relationship is unknown.

Following the arrest, coach Tom Izzo said that Nix was suspended indefinitely from the basketball team.  He remains suspended.
