A young Florida roster has become even younger. The Gators were expecting senior outfielder Tyler Thompson to return and take the reigns as the center fielder, but he decided that he wouldn’t play out his final year of eligibility. Thompson elected to leave the Gators for personal reasons.
The Gators gained their fourth commitment in the 2014 class today in cornerback Duke Dawson. The Dixie County High School (Cross City, FL) standout impressed the Gators and the Seminoles in summer camp and earned offers from both programs. Erik Murphy has done it multiple times this season. When Florida head coach Billy Donovan lists him as questionable for a game, the senior forward puts together a strong performance. He did it again on Wednesday. Murphy was listed as doubtful on Monday with fractured ribs, but he fought through the pain to give the Gators 11 points while opening conference play with a 77-44 win over Georgia.
