Duke’s first loss of the year came at the hands of NC State on January 12th. It was also the team’s first game without Ryan Kelly. Two games after that was Duke’s worst of the season as they suffered a demoralizing defeat at the hands of the now Top 10 Miami Hurricanes. Since then though, the Blue Devils seemed to have righted the ship while NC State has lost four of its last six games, three of those on the road. I don’t think NC State is as bad as their recent record has been, but the health of Lorenzo Brown tonight will go along way towards determining their ability to win in Cameron for the first time since 1989 (with Coach K on the bench). Get ready for the game with Duke of Hoops‘ links below. NC State-Duke Preview Duke finally figured out how to play without Ryan Kelly. North Carolina State might have to do the same if Lorenzo Brown isn’t healthy yet. The Wolfpack visit the fourth-ranked Blue Devils for a rematch Thursday night, and while Duke knows it will be without one of ...

Duke fans accused of chanting ‘How’s your grandma’ at Tyler Lewis, whose grandmother passed away (Video)

The Cameron Crazies have been known to cross the line in various ways during Duke basketball games, but nobody wants to believe they would chant what some of them are being accused of having chanted on Thursday night. NC State freshman guard Tyler Lewis lost his grandmother last Friday. He was reportedly close with her and has been taking it hard, and some people are accusing Duke...

1980 letter from Coach K to Michael Jordan

When Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski was informed that Michael Jordan (sorry, Mike Jordan) had chosen not to attend Duke, he wrote the following letter to him. As we know, MJ chose to go to school up the road at North Carolina. And as they say, the rest is history. Coach K eventually graduated from using a typewriter to a word processor on a computer (gasp!)…and became a pretty...

Mike Krzyzewski Wrote Michael Jordan, Called Him ‘A Fine Young Man’ After Jordan Turned Down Duke for UNC (Photo)

With college recruitment and signing days becoming as televised and talked-about as games themselves, it’s hard to remember a time when picking a school was a much less formal process. A letter between Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and former recruit Michael Jordan (who ended up playing for rival North Carolina, of course) shows just how different it used to be. Krzyzewski was among...

Mike Krzyzewski’s Letter to Michael Jordan After He Chose UNC over Duke (Photo)

I am going to assume this is a form letter that Coach K sent out to all the recruits who chose a different school than Duke. Probably an assistant hands him a stack, he signs them and they mail them all out. I bet there are 1000s of former college basketball players who are reading this now and saying to themselves. “Wait…I thought I was the only one who got a personalized letter...

Duke had a chance to make a serious statement in the national title picture with a win over NC State last night. And what a statement they made. It was a full team effort, with Mason Plumlee putting up 30 points, Seth Curry 26 and...

#4 Duke 98 NC State 85 press conference and interviews

Duke exacted revenge on NC State last night, holding off a rally by the Wolfpack late in the second half to put up their highest point total on the year of 98 points, and topped their previous ACC-best of 80 points against Wake Forest by 18. They also recorded their highest offensive efficiency of the season, scoring 1.4 points per possession. This is the third out of the past four...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – February 6 Edition

Before yesterday, the biggest injury news ramping up to Duke’s battle with NC State on Thursday was whether or not Lorenzo Brown would be healthy enough to play. Then came the news that Josh Hairston is struggling with an arm infection after getting cut during the Wake Forest game. With Ryan Kelly already out, Duke’s frontcourt is perilously thin heading into a matchup against...

Senior SG scored 26 points in Duke's victory over NC State on Thursday

Duke shoots lights out, holds on late over NC State

The much billed rematch looked more like a mismatch at least for three quarters of the game, before NC State used a sizzling second half shooting performance to make it a much closer contest. Mason Plumlee scored 30 points as Duke got revenge on NC State. In the end the Blue Devils held on to win 98-85 and get a level of revenge after the first meeting resulted in the Blue Devils’...

Duke announces 20-player signing class

Duke rarely signs the highest-rated recruits in football. Coach David Cutcliffe believes he's bringing in the right ones. The Blue Devils announced their 20-man recruiting class Wednesday, and on paper it looks like a typical Duke class. It's full of players the recruiting services rate as two- or three-star prospects. Cutcliffe said he would call this ''a class...
