By Duke of Hoops – Another opponent, another victory for the Blue Devils. After dispensing of Wake Forest on Saturday, Duke moved to 14-0 to start the season for the sixth time under Coach  Mike Krzyzewski. While the first eleven games Duke relied on Mason Plumlee to carry most of the load, Ryan Kelly and Seth Curry have stepped up in a big way over the last three as teams have begun to focus their defensive efforts on Plumlee. Still, the Blue Devils have their doubters as you can see in the fourth link down below. I’m guessing the writer of that commentary hasn’t watch the last few games. Duke has Clemson tomorrow night at home. Wake Forest’s inability to stop Ryan Kelly leads to 80-62 loss to No. 1 Duke At least Wake Forest only has to deal with Ryan Kelly one more time. Once again, the Demon Deacons had no answer for the Duke senior. They allowed him to score a season-high 22 points in the top-ranked Blue Devils’ 80-62 rout on Saturday. Wake Forest has given up at least 20 points...

Sample size throws Mason Plumlee under the bus

The narrative goes like this: Duke center Mason Plumlee - who has been a historically bad free throw shooter in his career - suddenly flipped the switch as a senior and became efficient from the line.  The reason was that he developed a new no-dribble routine at the line, which somehow allowed him to focus and make the freebies. Now, for whatever reason, he's no longer a good...

Duke's Kelly leaves game after re-injuring foot

DURHAM, NC --- Duke senior forward Ryan Kelly re-injured the same right foot on Tuesday night that kept him out of the ACC and NCAA Tournaments last spring. Kelly, who scored 12 points in the first half of top-ranked Duke's 68-40 victory over Clemson at Cameron Indoor Stadium, didn't play in the second half, a decision made by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski after learning his...

Duke's Kelly needs game-worthy nickname

DURHAM, N.C. -- What Ryan Kelly really needs is a nickname. The Duke senior forward is one of those guys who if not for his 6-foot-10 frame and recognizable half-beard, he'd be able to slither in and out of situations in life as well as on the basketball court without much notice to the average eye. Kelly isn't exactly dynamic with anything he does on the court, which...

#1 Duke vs. Wake Forest: By The Numbers

By Chad Lykins – The No. 1 Duke Blue Devils will begin conference play in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday after an outstanding showing during their 13-game non-conference schedule, which consisted of wins over three top five teams — No. 3 Kentucky, No. 2 Louisville and No. 4 Ohio State — and a Battle 4 Atlantis championship. The most played series in Duke basketball...

Seth Curry also had 22 points, Quinn Cook had a career-high 14 assists and Kelly finished with his fourth straight 20-point performance against Wake Forest. The Blue Devils (14-0, 1-0) shot 46 percent in their...

Wake Forest struggles in 80-62 loss to No. 1 Duke

At least Wake Forest only has to deal with Ryan Kelly one more time. Once again, the Demon Deacons had no answer for the Duke senior. They allowed him to score a season-high 22 points in the top-ranked Blue Devils' 80-62 rout on Saturday. Wake Forest has given up at least 20 points to Kelly in four straight meetings. That's why coach Jeff Bzdelik appreciates Kelly, but...

Duke opens ACC play with easy win

The only people who could stop Ryan Kelly on Saturday were the officials. Certainly not Wake Forest. Kelly scored a season-high 22 points in the top-ranked Blue Devils' 80-62 rout. Seth Curry also had 22 points, Quinn Cook had a career-high 14 assists and Kelly finished with his fourth straight 20-point performance against Wake Forest. ''He stepped up and he just had...

Duke downs Wake Forest 80-62 in ACC opener

By Josh Evans – Ryan Kelly scored a season high 22 points as Duke improved to 14-0 and 1-0 in conference play. Seriously, Kelly was on fire, and would have scored more if he had not of been in foul trouble for part of the game. Kelly has a knack for playing well against Wake Forest, and he did not disappoint history by having a subpar game. Quinn Cook also had an interesting stat...

ACC Morning Linkfest 1/9 with Game Sim Predictions

Duke won the only game on Tuesday night, taking care of Clemson 68-40.  Read the recap here.  The big news from Duke's win was Ryan Kelly didn't play in the 2nd half due to a foot injury.  It is the same foot that Kelly hurt last season and aggravated over Christmas break.  In my opinion, Ryan Kelly is likely Duke's most important player on both ends.  Kelly stretches...

The Return of the Duke Defense

Last season was a relatively disappointing one for the Duke Blue Devils.  While they were good, they were not as good as we are used to expecting from Mike Krzyzewski’s teams.  The Blue Devils failed to win 30 games for the first time in several years, still earned a two seed, but ended up losing in the first game of the NCAA tournament.  The Duke offense was every bit as potent...

Duke Doesn't Fly As High Without Its Raven

The news  hit the Twitterverse and the Duke fan base like a thud: Ryan Kelly, the White Raven, was hurt. Blue Devil fans have seen this before and they didn’t like the results. Duke’s Ryan Kelly suffered an as yet to be determined injury that could keep him out of action. Kelly who was red hot against Wake Forest this past weekend scoring 22 points and was Duke’s only...

Duke's slow starts a dangerous trend

DURHAM, NC --- Duke's 68-40 victory over visiting Clemson on Tuesday night was anything but pretty. But it was another victory for the top-ranked Blue Devils, who haven't come close to putting together anything remotely reflecting a complete game in a month. On Dec. 8, the Devils rolled a solid Temple club, 90-67, in New Jersey, but since have usually started slowly against...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 8 Edition

By Duke Of Hoops – It’s that time of year again, where Duke plays a game every two or three days until the end of the season. College football ended last night with Alabama’s beatdown of Notre Dame and Duke fans can only hope that the basketball season ends similarly, with the Blue Devils doing the beating down in Atlanta. The second game of the ACC season takes place tonight...

No. 1 Duke clamps down on Clemson in win

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Quinn Cook scored a career-high 27 points and No. 1 Duke held Clemson to its lowest-scoring half in 12 years in a 68-40 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday night. Ryan Kelly added 12 points in the first half but sat out the second with what team officials said was a right leg injury.
