Found January 25, 2013 on Duke Hoop: Yardbarker Blogger Network
It’s no secret that the Blue Devils haven’t been the same team since Ryan Kelly went out with an injured right foot during their game with Clemson on January 8th. Duke has lost two of its three games, including an embarrassing 27-point defeat to Miami on Wednesday night. After it was clear that Kelly would miss significant time, many people speculated that he would be missed most on the defensive side of the ball as Duke’s offense was clicking at a high level and they had multiple other weapons with the ability to score. Replacing the 13 points a game that Kelly was producing has not been as easy as anticipated. Without Kelly, Duke has scored nine points less per contest, with their lowest output of the season coming against Miami at 63. More remarkably, their field goal percentage has dipped by an astounding 13%, and they’ve only made a little over 1/3rd of their shots in the last three games. The threat of Ryan making shots from outside created spacing that opened up driving lanes...

Newbies change Duke's vibe in win over Terps

DURHAM, N.C. -- The difference in the mood surrounding Duke's basketball team late Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon would make the ebb and flow of the stock market appear like a straight line. The top-ranked Blue Devils were reeling after a 27-point loss at Miami that seemingly exposed every one of their weaknesses. But on Saturday, Duke responded like you would expect...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – Hit by a truck Edition

Duke has had some bad beats, but last night was the worst one since they were beat by 27 against Clemson in 2009. Coach Mike Krzyzewski forced his players to remain on the floor that night to soak in just how bad they had gotten beat, so they could take some lessons from a negative. The Blue Devils ended that season with a 23-point defeat to Villanova, the last time they shot as...

Miami hands Duke the third-worst defeat ever for a #1 ranked team

“Celebrate good times, come on!” – Kool and the Gang Historic losses usually do not have the Duke Blue Devils as the victim, but that is exactly what took place on Wednesday night in Coral Gables, when the Miami Hurricanes manhandled Duke by the tune of a 90-63 score. The loss was the third-worst ever for a team ranked #1 in the nation. This game was never really close, as...

Life is good for Hater Nation. The Patriots lost at home in the playoffs despite leading at halftime, Notre Dame lost in the BCS title game in spectacular fashion, the Lakers are playing like the Bobcats and the Dwight Howard experiment is working as well as Crystal Pepsi, the Cowboys missed the playoffs yet again as Tony Romo continues to do Tony Romo things, and last night the...

\ The Duke Blue Devils took over the top spot in the latest college basketball polls this week. However, their stay at No. 1 isn't going to last long after No. 25 Miami completely dismantled Duke on Wednesday. The final score read, 90-63, but the game wasn't nearly as close as the score might indicate. One man who was in attendance to see the upset victory was Hall of...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 25 Edition

Duke is still reeling from their blowout loss below, and have a lot of questions to answer moving forward with just 13 games remaining in the regular season. They did not, however practice late into the night/early morning as was reported (joked about) yesterday. With the Blue Devils’ recent struggles, Mason Plumlee has also begun to slip in Player of the Year voting, as chronicled...

Four Duke players among plus/minus leaders in conference play

While the ACC season is young, and Duke has played less than a quarter of its games, the Blue Devils are going through a huge transformation right now so its appropriate to point out any impressive number the players on the team are putting up right now. Duke suffered its first loss to NC State during this stretch, so I didn’t expect the numbers to be this good, but four Blue Devils...
