While the Penn State basketball team has continued to work on growing the roster ahead of next season, the Nittany Lions have lost players along the way as well. Kanye Clary was a bright spot for a large portion of the 2023-2024 season, but he was dismissed from the team in the middle of February, a coach’s decision made by Mike Rhoades. After entering the transfer portal on March 18, Clary has found a new school, committing to Mississippi State on Friday.

Ex-Penn State guard Kanye Clary commits to SEC school

During the 2023-2024 season, Kanye Clary appeared in 23 games for the Nittany Lions. He averaged 16.7 points per game this past season and looked like a rising star that the program could build around. But after his dismissal from the program on February 19, it felt that Clary had likely played his final game at Penn State.

That became more evident when he entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago. But for a player as talented as Clary, it did not take long for him to find a new school. He announced on his Instagram on Friday afternoon that he had committed to Mississippi State with a caption of, “Let’s Go #HailState.”

Mike Rhoades on Clary being dismissed from the program

While Kanye Clary was an exciting player to watch on the court, it has been a few months since he was dismissed from the program. Let’s revisit what Penn State basketball head coach Mike Rhoades had to say when he announced his dismissal.

Rhoades said, “Kanye is no longer with the team, coach’s decision. We’re going to keep moving forward on the guys we got, the task at hand. It came to a point where we’re at that I made the decision as the head coach to move on. I’ll leave it at that.”

Now, both sides look to move forward and build towards the future. We wish Clary the best of luck at Mississippi State.
