A few things to know about the biggest college basketball game to hit northern Ohio in years. That would be none other than Cleveland State at Kent State, tonight at 7:30. Here we go: Cleveland State is 3-0. That includes a big season-opening win at Vanderbilt -- which has at least two serious NBA prospects on its roster. Kent State is 2-0 with a season-opening win over Ohio native Bob Huggins and West Virginia on the Mountaineers home court. Cleveland States best player is DAundray Brown, a 6-foot-4 guard and Youngstown Ursuline product. Brown is helping coach Gary Waters and the Vikings overcome the loss of NBA first-round draft pick Norris Cole -- as Brown is averaging a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Impressive stuff considering the senior missed all of last season with a hand injury. Other players to watch for the Vikings: Senior guard Trevon Harmon, senior guard Jeremy Montgomery, senior forwardcenter Aaron Pogue and junior forward Tim Kamczyc. Meanwhile, Kent State is coached by first-year man Rob Senderoff. He replaces Geno Ford -- and if you go back far enough, youll know that the Golden Flashes successful coaching tree started with Waters. In fact, Waters first head coaching job came at Kent back in 1996. He is now a member of the schools hall of fame. On the floor, the Flashes are led by Michael Porrini, a 6-0 senior guard from Massillon. Porrini is the reigning MAC East Player of the Week. Other players to watch for the Flashes: Junior forward Chris Evans, senior guard Carlton Guyton, senior forward Justin Greene and junior guard Randal Holt. Kent State leads the all-time series, 25-21. But Cleveland State has won three of the past four, including a 69-66 home victory last year. Senderoff said: This is a big rivalry for both teams. A lot of our kids play in the same summer league (with CSU players). Theres a mutual respect as players and as coaches. Were 35 minutes away from each other and have been successful. FOX Sports Ohio writer Zac Jackson will be covering the game. Make sure to check out his story afterward at foxsportsohio.com. The game will also be streamed live on the Mid-American Conference website. You can view it here. Nance Jr. Update Larry Nance Jr. is averaging 2.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in three games at the University of Wyoming. The Revere High School product is the son of famed Cavaliers forward Larry Nance, who still lives in the Richfield area. Nance Jr. is a 6-foot-7 freshman and averaging just less than 16 minutes per game off the bench. The Cowboys are 2-1 heading into Tuesday nights home game against South Dakota.
