Marquette center Davante Gardner has been selected to tryout for the 2013 USA Basketball Mens World University Games Team this summer.He was one of 29 players invited to the camp that runs from June 24-30 and onlyone of three future Big East members to get the nod. The roster will be trimmed in late June before a final 12-man roster is announced prior to departure. The World University Games run from July 7-16 in Kazan, Russia.The rising senior was one of the most effectively efficientplayers in the conference last season, averaging 11.5 points on 58.5 percentfield goal shooting. He had the second best free-throw percentage in the BigEast at 83.5 percent and was third in free throws made with 147.A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Gardner has morphed into areliable offensive threat for the Golden Eagles despite his 290-pound frame. Hewill have to beat out the likes of Creightons Doug McDermott and MichiganStates Adreian Payne to make the cut.
