On the heels of a tumultuous several months filled with roster attrition, the Maryland men’s basketball team secured a commitment Friday morning from Georgia Tech transfer forward Robert Carter Jr., an individual with knowledge of the situation said. Carter will sit out a season per NCAA regulations before becoming a fourth-year junior in 2015-16. Carter, one of the country’s most productive big men while with the Yellow Jackets, represents a major boon for Coach Mark Turgeon and the Terrapins, who lost five transfers this spring after whiffing on the postseason altogether following a 17-15 campaign. Carter, who was recruited by Maryland out of high school and had developed a strong relationship with Turgeon, visited College Park this week, left Thursday without committing then offered his pledge the next day.
