News broke on Sunday morning that Kentucky guard Ryan Harrow would be leaving the program and headed to Georgia State. Harrow is a Georgia native, and wanted to be closer to his ailing father. Before this season began, Harrow’s father had a stroke and is not recovering well. I’m sure we all could guess that Harrow would be leaving the program in some way. With the Harrison twins coming in and coach Calipari wanting Dominique Hawkins on board, Harrow would have seen very limited action at Kentucky in 2013. Because of his father’s condition, Harrow will attempt to gain a waiver from the NCAA so he can keep a year of his eligibility. If he is not granted the waiver, Harrow would have to sit all of next season due to transfer rules. This transfer also opens up an old can of worms when it comes to Dominique Hawkins. It was no surprise to anyone that he was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky after his performance in the Sweet 16. Hawkins lead his Richmond-based Madison Central Indians to their very first state title. With Ryan Harrow leaving the program, the door is now wide open for Hawkins to receive a scholarship offer. If that is the case, I would expect the offer to come very soon. I personally wish Ryan Harrow the best, despite the fact his experiment with Kentucky didn’t work out. I will be keeping Ryan, his father, and their family in my thoughts.
