How Indiana basketball transfers fared during 2023-24 season

The transfer portal is a significant part of the college basketball game and for Indiana basketball, there are still a handful of former players playing for other schools at numerous levels of college basketball.

There are six former Indiana basketball players still in college basketball. Here is how their 2023-24 seasons fared.

Tamar Bates (Missouri)

The most notable of the bunch is Tamar Bates. The former top-30 recruit spent two years at Indiana before heading to Missouri last offseason. After averaging 5.1 points per game across two years in Bloomington, he averaged 13,5 points per game this season and started 25 games. Bates always had the ability to score and be a terrific offensive player and showed that this season. He shot 49.5 percent from the floor, 38.5 percent from three and 92.6 percent from the free throw line. In conference play alone, Bates averaged 16.2 points per game.

After 11 double-digit scoring games across his first 67 games, he had 23 games this year. He had five 20+ point games this season, including a career-high 36 points.

His best game of the season was that 36-point performance against Florida when he was 12-of-17 from the floor.

Missouri finished 8-24 on the season with an 0-18 record in SEC play.

Jordan Geronimo (Maryland)

Geronimo wrapped up his first year at Maryland after three years with Indiana. The hybrid forward averaged 5.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this year. After just six starts in his three years in Bloomington, he saw 26 starts this past season. His role was similar to that at Indiana — be disruptive on defense and active on the offensive glass. However, Geronimo did spend more time than previously on the perimeter — shooting a career high in 3s (46), while also a career low in three-point percentage (17.4).

He had five games in double-digits and one double-double.

Maryland finished 16-17 overall and 7-13 in Big Ten play after being picked preseason as the third team in the league.

Khristian Lander (Western Kentucky)

Khristian Lander had his best collegiate season by far this year at Western Kentucky. After two years with Indiana, he wrapped up his second year with WKU, averaging 9.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He also made a career-best 35 3s this year, shooting 35 percent from three. He started 11 of 26 games this year.

Lander scored in double-figures 11 times, seeing his top-7 scoring outputs of his career this season.

Western Kentucky finished 22-12 overall and 8-8 in conference play. They made it to the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to two-seed Marquette.

Jerome Hunter (Xavier)

Jerome Hunter came back to Xavier after having a terrific end to his junior year the year prior. Unfortunately, Hunter missed all year after suffering another medical issue in the offseason. He was cleared for practice towards the end of the season, but did not see the floor.

Hunter averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 2022-23.

Xavier finished 16-18 overall and 9-11 in Big East play.

Logan Duncomb (Xavier)

Duncomb was entering his first season at Xavier after transferring this offseason. But, just a month before the season in October, Duncomb announced that he would be stepping away from basketball.

Duncomb announced last month that he would be entering the transfer portal.

Nathan Childress (Indiana Wesleyan)

Childress was a walk-on with Indiana basketball and used his covid year to play at Indiana Wesleyan this year. He was named All-Crossroads League Second Team after averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds a game.

His best performance was a 33-point performance against Spring Arbor. He had four 20+ point games.

Indiana Wesleyan was 29-6 this season and lost in the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals.
