Responsibility. Some can accept it and some cannot. The Fighting Illini basketball coaching staff is ready to heap a ton of responsibility on sophomore point guard Tracy Abrams. He is still learning the position, but he has the determination and leadership skills to get the job done. He feels the Illini program is on the upswing, just like his own game.

The Fighting Illini football team is still practicing without full pads by NCAA edict. But they were allowed to add shoulder pads on day 3 at Camp Rantoul, and the sound of pads popping was music to the ears. With split sessions the first three days, the entering freshmen had a chance to get plenty of reps and show a little bit of what they can do.
The Fighting Illini football program picked up an important in-state recruit when linebacker Reggie Spearman went public with his commitment today. The Chicago Simeon star has long favored the UI and chose to make his decision public. He also has friends the UI is recruiting, so he hopes to get some of them to join him.
The Fighting Illini football coaching staff attracted a large number of impressive prospects to their camps this summer. Among them was a dynamic defensive back from Lima, Ohio, who combines size with speed and athleticism. Darius West has an Illini offer and is considering it strongly.
The Fighting Illini football team practiced together for the first time at Camp Rantoul Thursday. It allowed a first glimpse at a possible depth chart. Illini coaches continue to practice fundamentals, including spending a large amount of time on special teams. The Illini have retained a high energy level despite the warm weather.
Day two in Camp Rantoul was more of the same, as the Fighting Illini football team continues preparations for the fall season. In what was likely the hottest day of the week, the Illini continued to work on fundamentals. For the most part, the players appeared to be sufficiently conditioned to survive the heat well.
