TweetTop NBA draft prospect Joel Embiid — the 7’0″ center from Kansas — has suffered what could be a broken foot, per a report from ESPN. “He suffered a foot injury to his right foot sometime over the last few days,” agent Arn Tellem told ESPN’s Andy Katz by phone Thursday. One source told ESPN.com that Embiid “may have broken” his foot, but Tellem wouldn’t speculate on the seriousness of the injury until he had heard from doctors. Tellem also stated that Embiid would not be undergoing any additional workouts prior to the June 26th draft. Many projected Embiid to be top first overall pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but that prediction is now in serious doubts. There were already concerns over the health of Embiid’s back, which caused him to miss the final month of the season with the Jayhawks. Cleveland can’t afford to botch another top pick after Anthony Bennett produced an underwhelming rookie season after the Cavs surprisingly selected his first overall in 2013. The Cavaliers also have a history of big men suffering nagging foot injuries, with former Cavs first rounder Zydrunas Igauskas being sidelined much of his career with Cleveland due to foot issues. The Philadelphia 76ers expressed interest in swapping picks with Cleveland to select Andrew Wiggins, and with Embiid’s injury concerns trading down to 3rd may be a better option for the Cavs as Embiid is the player they have widely been reported as targeting. That scenario would allow the Sixers to select Wiggins 1st, the Milwaukee Bucks to pick Jabari Parker 2nd overall and Embiid sliding down the Cleveland at 3rd.
