For Kentucky recruiting, the 2013 class is pretty much set in stone. John Calipari may be looking to add a few in state prospects, and they are still in the mix for three big recruits in the class. The crown jewel of them all, Andrew Wiggins is taking an official visit to Kentucky on Wednesday to watch the ‘Cats take on Mississippi State. Wiggins has trimmed his list down to Florida State, North Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky. Wiggins has already visited Florida State, the school that both of his parents are alums and played athletics for the ‘Noles. After the rest of his visits are complete, I don’t believe the world will have to wait too much longer for a decision. Florida State has always been rumored to be the front runner with Kentucky being 1b. Aaron Gordon is a California kid with some serious power. The trail on Gordon to Kentucky has gone very cold as of late, and Arizona appears to be the leader to land his services. As for Julius Randle, his recruitment has been one of mystery and one of silence. Much of the silence may have been attributed to him breaking his foot early in the season and not being able to return to the floor until recently. Early in his recruitment and before his injury, Randle had a lot of rumors pointing at him to become a Texas Longhorn. Reports went as far as to say the UK staff had backed off of their recruitment of the Dallas, TX native because of the Longhorns involvement. After breaking his foot, John Calipari periodically called Randle and asked how he was dealing with being sidelined with the injury. Those calls formed a stronger bond between Randle and the coaching staff at Kentucky. That bond may be paying dividends for Kentucky in the long run. After his recent visit to Kansas, Randle reportedly enjoyed himself and was said Kansas made his decision more difficult. He later said he will not be making any more visits, and the next step will be making his decision. Today, a source that broke the Mark Stoops to Kentucky news, said simply “Julius Randle to Kentucky.” Take it as you will, but any news about Randle’s recruitment is big news because of how silent he has been. The only small hint of any lean for Randle was published when he was asked who his ideal teammate in college would be. He answered with UK commitment and point guard Andrew Harrison. Many reports have also linked Randle to coming to Kentucky with 2013 #1 recruit Andrew Wiggins. If the first piece of that puzzle is now leaning towards Kentucky, does that give a hint into the recruitment of Wiggins? Keep in mind, all news of this situation is a lot of chatter at the moment. Nothing will be official until Randle commits and signs the paperwork. Just last year, Shabazz Muhammad told the UK staff that he would be a Kentucky Wildcat. Instead, he went to UCLA. Randle to Kentucky is not a done deal, but a huge step may have been taken in the right direction. At this point, the UK staff may be very surprised if Randle is not in Kentucky blue next season.
