Andrew Wiggins isn’t the only Jayhawk being compared to NBA greats. Learn to remember this name, Joel Embiid, he’s the number one rated center of this freshmen class, according to ESPN. Soccer was Embiid’s first sport growing up in Cameroon. Embiid didn’t play organize basketball until he turned 16, his first coach informed him how similar his situation was to the great Hakeem Olajuwon. His coach would make him study film on “The Dream” and that’s who Embiid models his game after today. As the college basketball season approaches, Kansas coach Bill Self sees the comparison to Hakeem. “A young Hakeem Olajuwon,” Self says. Unlike teammate Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid doesn’t mind being compared to one of the greats. “So that’s what I’m trying to do,” Embiid says. “I’m trying to become like him.” So this week in Kansas Jayhawk basketball news, we’ve learned they have the next LeBron James and Hakeem Olajuwon.
