Rumors about Mayo taking his talents to the Kansas Jayhawks had already started floating long before he verbally committed to transfer to the program. Murmurs started to get amplified following Mayo and the South Dakota Jack Rabbits’ early exit from the 2024 NCAA Tournament . Mayo should get ample playing time right away for the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2024-25 college basketball season, especially since the Big 12 powerhouse seemed to have a glaring need for a scorer in the backcourt  this season. Kansas concluded its 2023-24 campaign just 52nd in the nation with a 53.5 effective field goal percentage and only 69th with a 1.121 shooting efficieny.
