This could be bad news for Kentucky…
Kentucky freshman phenom Nerlens Noel had to be helped off the court after injuring his left knee during tonight’s loss against 7th ranked Florida.
Noel, who is averaging 10.6 pts, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks a game, left the game after landing awkwardly on his knee with 8 minutes left to play.
The potential loss of Noel would be devastating for a Kentucky team that finally seemed to gain its footing after a disappointing start to the season, and any run at making and during the NCAA tournament could be thwarted.
The potential long-term effects of a bad knee injury to Noel also begs the question of the necessity of players who are clearly of NBA talent risking injury to play the required one year of college ball.
As for now, until a official announcement is made, that question will be put on hold as we wish for the best for Noel.
BEST OF MAXIM
John Calipari’s teams typically have had little difficulty racking up wins against solid competition, making their inclusion in the tournament field indisputable. However, this season has been a strange one for college hoops, and the Wildcats have not been exempted from the ludicrousness. Devastating injuries are a part of sports, but when that injury is completely preventable it’s even worse. I’m talking of course about Nerlens Noel, the Kentucky Wildcats’ superstar center who never should have been. When players become superstars in college, we never seem to question the NBA’s policy towards draft eligibility, where a player must be a year removed from his...

UPDATE: Nerlens Noel has torn his ACL and is out for the year. His draft status is still unknown.
It happened in an instant and sucked out the energy from the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. In one moment was a display of spectacular athleticism and in the next one of sheer agony and dread.
Nerlens Noel is exactly as advertised at this point of his career. He is extremely...
In the aftermath of people suggesting South Carolina All American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney sit out this season to prevent injury, and Kentucky center Nerlens Noel tearing his ACL a few days ago, some good news has come out just in case it was worse.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari confirmed that Noel had already taken out a $10 million dollar injury insurance policy before...
If there were any questions about Florida's status in the Southeastern Conference following a loss at Arkansas last week, the Gators put those to rest Tuesday night. With another lopsided win in league play. And against defending national champion Kentucky, which had freshman star Nerlens Noel go down with a knee injury.
After a competitive first few minutes, the Florida Gators started hitting their shots. Then they started getting out in transition. Kentucky didn’t help their cause by committing turnover after turnover. The Gators took full advantage of the miscues, and the route was on. On that night, Florida was just flat out better than the ‘Cats. While the ‘Cats never gave up on the game...
