How does coach Lamar Odom sound? The man himself apparently thinks it has a nice ring to it.

In an interview this week on “Entertainment Tonight,” the ex-NBA forward said that he would like to become the next head coach for Rhode Island.

“You know what I really want, I really want to be the head coach at the University of Rhode Island,” he said. “If I can bring them the Miami Heat training regimen, along with my basketball knowledge, they’d be a fool not to at least give me a shot.

“I can definitely make that program a winning situation,” added the former Sixth Man of the Year. “Because right now, they’re not doing too good.”

Odom, a two-time NBA champion and former Sixth Man of the Year, played his college ball at Rhode Island. Although he was only with the Rams for one season, Odom led them in scoring and rebounding and earned First-Team All-Conference Honors.

Rhode Island has since fallen on some rough times, however. It is 13-13 this season under fourth-year head coach David Cox after going just 10-14 the year before that. If Odom is somehow able to become the Rams’ next head coach, at least that would be a better use of his time than the other stuff that Odom has been doing since leaving the NBA.
