Jamal Olasewere and Julian Boyd each tallied double-doubles to lead Long Island University over Sacred Heart 87-81 on Thursday night and push the Blackbirds' winning streak to a season-high four games.
Olasewere scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Boyd had 12 points and 12 boards for the Blackbirds (9-6, 3-0 Northeast Conference). C.J. Garner added 18 points and Jason Brickman 16 for Long Island, which blew a game-opening 21-7 advantage but pulled ahead for good with a second-half run.
After overcoming the early deficit, the Pioneers stayed close to the Blackbirds for the entire second half and led 69-68 with 3:35 left.
But Long Island came out of a timeout and put together a 7-0 run for a 76-69 advantage with just more than a minute left.
Shane Gibson scored 28 points to lead Sacred Heart (7-9, 1-2), which has lost three of four.
