AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns have had their ups and downs this season, but guard Max Abmas has proven that he's built for Big 12 play after transferring in from Oral Roberts this past offseason.

As a result, he's one of 10 candidates for the Bob Cousy Award, which annually honors the top point guard in college basketball.

Here are the 10 candidates:

- Jamal Shead, Houston Cougars

- Tyler Kolek, Marquette

- Isaiah Stevens, Colorado State

- Wade Taylor IV, Texas A&M

- Max Abmas, Texas

- Tristen Newton, UConn

- Boo Buie, Northwestern

- Jahvon Quinerly, Memphis

- Dajuan Harris Jr., Kansas

- Zakai Zeigler, Tennessee

Abmas finds himself in elite company for the award and will need to keep up or improve his scoring numbers throughout the season in order to have a real chance at beating out players like Newton, Kolek and Shead.

This season, Abmas is averaging a team-high 17.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 40.6 percent from deep, and 90.4 percent at the foul line.

Abmas has also hit two go-ahead shots in the final seven seconds this season in wins over Louisville and Cincinnati.

He and the Longhorns have already or will play four players on the list, as they've already faced Kolek and Newton before facing Shead tonight and Harris on Feb. 24.

Texas and No. 4 Houston tip-off at 8 p.m. CT tonight at the Moody Center.
