Creighton has shown early on that it might have enough depth to be consistently successful this season without big games from star forward Doug McDermott.
The No. 14 Bluejays will try for another solid team effort Tuesday night when they host Longwood in regional play for this weekend's Las Vegas Invitational.
A preseason All-American, McDermott averaged 22.9 points for the 29-6 Bluejays last season. Though Creighton (3-0) reached the third round of the NCAA tournament, only two of his teammates averaged more than 9.0 points.
With opponents now focused more on stopping McDermott, Bluejays coach and Doug's father Greg McDermott is pleased to see others step up. McDermott's average has dropped to 16.7 points in this young season, but four other Creighton players are averaging at least 9.0 per contest.
