It was a slow start for the Cardinals as they trailed Marquette 1-9 and didn’t score a field goal in the first four minutes of the game. However, Rick Pitino’s team used a huge run midway through the second half to pull away for good, winning 70-51 against the Golden Eagles.
After missing a few easy baskets to start the game, Louisville found their stride on both ends of the floor and looked as good as we’ve seen them all season. It’s been said that guard play is the strength of this Louisville team and that was certainly the case today. When Peyton Siva and Russ Smith are both playing at a high level this team is tough to beat.
Russ Smith led all scorers with 18. He also finished with five rebounds and three assists. Peyton Siva had some uncharacteristic turnovers this afternoon, but overall he had a fine performance, finishing with 14 points and 7 assists.
