Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals had a surprise visitor yesterday afternoon as they defeated No. 25 Marquette 70-51 at the KFC Yum! Center. Trey Lyles, a 6-foot-10 235-pound power forward from Indianapolis was in attendance yesterday for an unofficial visit. Lyles is rated as a 5-star prospect and is considered to be one of the top overall players in the 2014 class. He was previously verbally committed to Indiana, but decided to reopen his recruitment over the summer. The night before traveling to Louisville, Lyles scored 22-points and grabbed 10-rebounds for Arsenal Tech as they defeated Warren Central 65-59. This was Lyles’ second unofficial visit to Louisville. He also took an unofficial visit to Kentucky in October. Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State, Duke, Florida and UCLA (in no particular order) appear to be the top schools in pursuit of Lyles.

Pitino goes with white, Louisville thumps Marquette

Less than five minutes after his Louisville team had defeated Marquette 71-50, a relieved Rick Pitino showed up in the press room wearing a brown plaid shirt and dark pants. “I really didn’t want to wear the white suit today, I was ready for a change,” he said, adding that he had been warned by his wife, his niece and daughter that not wearing the suit would be bad luck. So...

Louisville Showing Interest In Eastern Kentucky Prep Star

Rick Pitino’s 2013 recruiting class looks to be complete. However, things can always change. Pitino has even said this himself. Montrezl Harrell is a perfect example of how things can develop during the offseason. At this point, I’d say Louisville will not bring in any other players in 2013, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped following prospects. According to Ryan Schmidt...

Louisville 70 – Marquette 51: Cards Crush Golden Eagles

It was a slow start for the Cardinals as they trailed Marquette 1-9 and didn’t score a field goal in the first four minutes of the game. However, Rick Pitino’s team used a huge run midway through the second half to pull away for good, winning 70-51 against the Golden Eagles. After missing a few easy baskets to start the game, Louisville found their stride on both ends of the...

Louisville routs Marquette 70-51

On a day when Rick Pitino broke out his white suit and the marketing department called for a white out, the Cardinals played a great game in route to a 70 to 51 victory. The last time that Marquette was in the Yum! Center, Louisville had one of the most miraculous comebacks in series history.  Luckily this one wasn’t as close and a major contributing factor was the play of Russ...

Louisville 70 – Marquette 51: Post Game Notes

Peyton Siva played 38 minutes and was whistled for only one personal foul.  Yes, only one. Louisville played nine guys 14 or more minutes, but only four played more than 20 minutes.  That much sharing of minutes and this team should never get gassed. Cards shot just under 52% against the Golden Eagles for they’re second highest performance in conference play and third highest...

Linebacker Lyn Clark Picks Louisville

Charlie Strong picked up his 16th verbal commitment from the 2013 class on Sunday evening. Lyn Clark, a 6-foot 215-pound linebacker from New Orleans, LA., committed to the Cards as soon as he arrived home from his official visit to Louisville over the weekend. Clark was the only uncommitted prospect to visit Louisville this weekend. He chose the Cards over Louisiana Tech and had...

Is Louisville The Favorite For Four Star Linebacker Jermaine Grace?

Jermaine Grace, a four-star 6-foot-2 195-pound outside linebacker from Miramar, FL., is the only uncommitted recruit that Louisville fans should keep an eye on tomorrow. There are a couple of recruits that are already committed that could make the flip to Louisville, but Grace decided to hold out until tomorrow. He’ll decide between Miami and Louisville. Rivals.com polled eight...

Podcast: Cards knock off Marquette. Is Louisville Back On Track?

If you missed Monday night’s edition of Inside The Press Box, here is the podcast. Click here to view from your mobile device. I spent most of Monday’s show talking about Super Bowl commercials and recapping Louisville’s big win over Marquette. Have the Cards turned the corner? Plenty of callers shared their thoughts. I also talked about Charlie Strong’s newest football commit.

Marquette, Louisville battle for best in Big East

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Louisville is hoping to get a little separation in the jumbled Big East when the No. 12 Cardinals host Marquette on Sunday. The Cardinals (17-4, 5-3 Big East) were the nation's top-ranked team two weeks ago before three straight conference losses. The No. 25 Golden Eagles (15-4, 6-1) enter Sunday's matchup all by themselves in first place after sixth...

Clark chooses Cardinals

O.P. Walker (Algiers, LA) outside linebacker Lyn Clark made the late-night call to Louisville head coach Charlie Strong...

Rutgers packing the RAC for UofL game

Not sure this happens with other teams but one is familiar with what sometimes happens against the next opponent, especially after playing near perfect basketball for 35 minutes on Sunday. The first five minutes were a shaky, remember? A 19-point win over a good Marquette team came as a surprise to many University of Louisville fans, accustomed to last second buzzer beaters in the...
