College basketball : Michigan State notebook
Minneapolis - As Michigan State has slowly crept up the national rankings this season, so have the expectations for the No. 6 team in the country.
Count Earvin "Magic" Johnson as one of the many who now believe the Spartans are one of the best teams in the nation.
"This is a Tom Izzo type of team," Johnson said on Wednesday. "He has done a wonderful job of coaching them and I tell you, if he's not the coach of the year ... I mean, he has done an amazing job and I'm really proud of him."
Johnson held a conference call on Wednesday to discuss the 20th anniversary of his MVP performance in his final NBA All-Star Game, along with the ESPN Films and NBA Entertainment documentary "The Announcement" and the "Magic/Bird" Broadway play that opens March 21.
But he took the time to talk about his alma mater and what he thinks sets them apart.
