The hole was already going to be a large one to fill for Joe Jones and the Boston University men’s basketball team given the losses of seniors Dom Morris and D.J. Irving.
That hole just got a lot bigger.
Maurice Watson Jr., the Terriers’ leading scorer this past season and the lone BU player to make the All-Patriot League first team, will transfer from the school and look to play at a higher-level program for his final two years of eligibility.
Jones said that he and BU have granted Watson his release from his final two years of eligibility, but it is not known where he will finish his collegiate career. Watson will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules.
According to Jones, Watson went back-and-forth with his decision in the days since the top-seeded Terriers were eliminated by American in the Patriot League championship final, losing out on the automatic NCAA berth.
