A recruiting reporter for On3 says Michigan State basketball fans should “monitor” Colorado’s Eddie Lampkin in the portal.

It seems like every day at this point a new player hits the transfer portal that looks like could be a good fit for the 2024-25 Michigan State basketball team. However, no name seems like a better fit then star center Eddie Lampkin who just entered the portal.

Lampkin is a star center who is coming off a decent year at Colorado. This past season, he averaged 10.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. He also did this while shooting an efficient 58 percent from the field.

The senior big man helped lead Colorado to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021. He had a solid 13-point game in the Buffaloes’ First Four win against Boise State. He then followed that up by going off with 21 points and six rebounds in their win over 7-seed Florida. His season came to an end in the second round against 2-seed Marquette, but Colorado nearly pulled off the upset and Lampkin scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Is he a target for MSU?

Lampkin is a very likely target for Michigan State for many reasons. The obvious is that the Spartans desperately need a center added to their roster. Whether Mady Sissoko decides to come back for a fifth year or not, MSU needs a center good enough to start in the Big Ten, and that player currently is not on the roster. Lampkin could come in day one and be the starting center for Michigan State right away.

The big man also is in the transfer portal for the second season in a row. Last offseason, he left TCU where he played for three seasons and ultimately committed to Colorado. However, Michigan State did reach out to him last offseason, so that shows Tom Izzo already has interest in him.

On3 insider Kenny Jordan also posted on X that “Michigan State fans should monitor” in response to Lampkin hitting the portal.

It will be interesting to see if Izzo contacts Lampkin soon. If I had to guess, I say that he will based on last year’s interest and what Jordan shared online. But with Izzo’s track record with the portal, we can never be too confident.

Recruitments in the transfer portal can move fast, so this is 100 percent a name you will want to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
