There’s no question that the teams of Tom Izzo are much better in March -when it counts- then November/December. But nothing has come easy for this Spartans team. It seems like every time they play inferior competition they struggle with them. They still win, but play way down to their level. They did it again versus Texas, trailing in the second half. Yes, the Longhorns just knocked off a #23 ranked North Carolina team, but the Tar Heels are overrated. And UT has lost to Chaminade, USC, Georgetown and USC. State won of course, but the ‘Horns were down by just two down the stretch. MSU’s struggles started with the upset to an inferior UConn team in Germany. They only beat Boise St. by four, not pulling away from Oakland until the closing minutes, beating Lousiana-Lafayette by just three, losing to unranked Miami team, they also trailed late in the second half to Loyola and Bowling Green. They’re just not dominating teams nor closing them out. By far, the highlight of the non-confere...

Game Preview: Gophers vs. Michigan State

Well, this is it.  Michigan State at home is the absolute perfect test to let us know just how good this Gopher team is this year.  A good, but not great, team at home.  The kind of game that a Sweet 16 (or better) contender should be able to handle without much of an issue.  Not that the game shouldn't be close or anything like that, just that you should always have the...

Michigan St. leaves Valley with win, questions

TEMPE, Ariz. Michigan State left the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl late Saturday night with two questions: Did they lose running back LeVeon Bell? Did they gain a quarterback? Bell, a junior whose only decision about the NFL is when, not if, had 145 yards rushing and scored a touchdown as the Spartans reversed a season-long trend by finishing on the right end of a close game in a 17...

Now, There’s No Debate: Connor Cook Should Lead Michigan State’s Quarterback Competition in 2013

Though it took until the late stages of the calender year, finally, Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans’ coaching staff made the bold move they had to make with their offense. In the process, they may have found a dependable answer at quarterback for the near future. (Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By NOAH TRISTER AP Sports Writer Michigan State finished one game over .500 after winning its final game by one point. It was an appropriate ending to a season full of close victories and excruciating defeats. The Spartans played nine games decided by four points or fewer, including their first seven in Big Ten play.
