Mike Miles And His Role With The Dallas Mavericks

Mike Miles signed a two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks last week. The guard had an outstanding 2022 season averaging 18 points per game, and became the true leader for TCU.

The path to the NBA is a lot harder going undrafted. Many analysts felt that Miles would at least go late in the second round, so to go undrafted was quite the surprise. Scouts have pointed to his height and a lack of consistent perimeter shooting. However, he won't have to go far, staying in his hometown in Dallas. 

Former Maverick guard JJ Barea went undrafted and had an excellent career carving out a pivotal role in the 2011 Mavericks championship season. There is certainly a lot of competition at the guard position in Dallas. Assuming the Mavs are able to resign Kyrie Irving, the tandem with him and Luka Doncic makes for the best offensive backcourt in the NBA. Second-year player Jaden Hardy was terrific last season and will certainly see his minutes increase next season. 

Competition for minutes is certainly stiff. However, the expectation is that Miles will likely play in the G League for the majority of the season. If he can find success there and in the Summer League, Miles could find himself on the roster at some point during the season. He'll get to learn a lot from Doncic and Irving, along with head coach Jason Kidd being one of the best point guards of all time.

It'll be a steep hill to climb for Mike Miles, but this is nothing new for him. His offensive ability is impressive, and we will all be rooting for him in his professional career.
