Trevor Mbakwe had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Minnesota held Penn State scoreless for the first 11 minutes of the game to cruise to a 73-44 victory on Saturday.
Julian Welch had 10 points and seven assists and Rodney Williams had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Gophers (20-9, 8-8 Big Ten), who didn't let the Nittany Lions spoil their Senior Day and capped a big week in which they also toppled No. 1 Indiana at home.
D.J. Newbill scored 15 points for Penn State (9-19, 1-15) but made just 2 of 16 field goals, and the Lions weren't able to sneak up on Minnesota like they did No. 4 Michigan earlier this week. They trailed 16-0 before getting their first basket of the game with 8:42 to go in the half.

MINNEAPOLIS The chants rang from the Williams Arena student section on Saturday, directed at the Gophers' most integral seniors.
First, Minnesota's students chanted "One more year!" at forward Trevor Mbakwe, a sixth-year senior who has gone through plenty during his time on campus. As Mbakwe left the court with 3:41 to play, he was met by a standing ovation before...

Rodney Williams soaring through air and Trevor Mbakwe's chest pounding dunks will be sorely missed. But if we do see them play another game in venerable Williams Arena, it means something...
Fresh off a thrilling, court-storm-inducing victory over Indiana, the Gophers kept up the intensity and cemented their status as a tournament team with a 29-point drubbing of Penn State. On a day where Tubby started all seniors on Senior Day, Minnesota dismantled the Nittany Lions in all aspects of the game. With a significant size, [...]
MINNEAPOLIS The University of Minnesota men's hockey team entered its weekend series against Denver with the best power play unit in the WCHA. If you didn't know that as you watched Friday's game, however, you might have thought the Gophers' power play unit was among the worst in the conference.
Minnesota was 0-for-5 on the power play Friday and had just two total...
MINNEAPOLIS Gophers coach Don Lucia had an earful for his team after they were blanked Friday against Denver. His players said they were embarrassed with their effort, which resulted in the home fans booing them.
One night later, the Gophers were singing a much different tune.
Minnesota responded from Friday's 2-0 loss with a 5-1 win Saturday at Mariucci Arena. That made the...
