During their broadcast of the Indiana-Ohio State game Tuesday night, ESPN cameras found a young woman in the crowd holding up a fairly innocuous sign that read “DAN DAKICH DATED MY MOM…seriously” which wouldn’t be all that humorous if it didn’t turn out to be 100% true. The confirmation that Dakich, the former head coach at Indiana and current ESPN college basketball color analyst, did indeed date this person’s mom came from a rather unlikely, but terrifically reliable, source.

Dan Dakich himself.

Smart move by Mike Tirico to stop Dakich from naming the woman on air, because who knows how she would have reacted to all the unwanted publicity that comes with the revelation that she once dated Dan Dakich. And yet it’s hard not to agree with the ESPN commentator that she should embrace it as a “Badge of Honor” like her daughter has, because hooking up with a former Division I coach of Dakich’s stature, well, there’s no shame in that game.
