There is no telling when the clock is going to strike midnight on Florida Gulf Coast’s season, but it is going to be a fun ride until it does. Unless you are a Gators fan, or have them in your Final Four pool, you are behind the Eagles heading into Friday’s Sweet 16 game. The community of Fort Myers is definitely behind them, as is Norman Love Confections, who has a one of its two store fronts in the same town.

The artisan chocolate company has redesigned its chocoate high heels in FGCU Eagle colors.

Via News-Press.com:

“We just put them out late yesterday afternoon,” said Norman Love, chocolatier and owner. “These chocolate high heels have always been popular. The FGCU pair colored green and blue with a basketball on the toe have been wildly popular.”

Just one of these shoes, at a size five measurement, sells for $15 a pop. But they are selling fast, and more are one their way to being made.

In addtion to the slippers, the local European American Bakery, made 60 FGCU-iced sugar cookies, which sold out near the end of the lunch hour.

It’s not typical to go through that many in a day,” Savich said about the cookies. “Sometimes during Christmas you might go through 40.”

Other eateries have done similar things, like a FGCU themed doughnut, and free coffee to FGCU students.

Pretty cool to see a community come together around a team. Fort Myers definitely isn’t thought as a college town like Gainesville or Talla

Despite tourney titles, Donovan being overlooked

Maybe its their underachieving nature and lack of flashy offense. Maybe its because of the quality and margin of their wins. Maybe theyve been looked over because of the down nature of their conference this season. Or, maybe, people arent convinced they have the talent to advance any further than this weekend. Whatever the reason, Billy Donovan and his Florida Gators are not...

Where’s the love for the LaSalle Explorers?

Yes, Florida Gulf Coast University is the team we all consider as Cinderella for this NCAA Tournament, and rightly so. You would think that the LaSalle Explorers may feel like Jan Brady, constantly wondering why everyone is talking about Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. If they where to cry about all the attention that FGCU is getting, it would be rightfully so, I mean c’mon, this is their...

Donovan knew preseason FGCU was good

They may have been a surprise team from the early going for most of America, but not Billy Donovan. His friendship with Florida Gulf Coast University head coach Andy Enfield almost led to a preseason match-up between the schools. Instead, the head Gator was more worried about facing a team the Eagles just upset in the tourney. Donovan knew back then this team from SW Florida was really good.

State of Florida basketball on a high note

In the past Billy Donovan has had to fight the perception issues of basketball at Florida. That perception has been even more so when it comes to the state of Florida. Now, with three teams in the NCAA Tournament Sweet-16, the state of Florida is front and center with that orange ball of the hard wood. Donovan likes the way things are going and believes the state can stand on its own.

Is Miguel Cabrera this generation’s Hank Aaron?

On June 20, 2003, Miguel Cabrera struck out in his first big league at bat.  He’d get the last laugh however. In the bottom of the eleventh inning the 20-year-old rookie hit a two-run home run to help his then-Florida Marlins to a 3-1 victory over the then-Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Now, I bring that up only to awkwardly segue into this. Friday, the reigning American League MVP turned...
