After the NCAA denied him eligibility this season at the University of Minnesota, former Louisville forward Rakeem Buckles appealed the ruling.
Unfortunately, the NCAA stuck with their initial decision in denying Buckles a waiver to play this season for Richard Pitino.
The Miami native is expected to return to Florida International for his final year of eligibility where he is expected to be a walk-on. FIU doesn’t currently have any scholarships available for the 2013-14 season.
Buckles and his former FIU teammate Malik Smith decided to follow Richard Pitino to Minnesota after he took the job in April. Due to a low APR, FIU will not be allowed to play in the post-season this coming season. Both Buckles and Smith applied for a waiver to be able to play immediately due to FIU’s post-season ban. Smith was granted the waiver, but for whatever reason Buckles was not.
