Nebraska basketball target Frankie Fidler delays decision, plus more Cornhuskers news

Wisconsin and Michigan State were perceived to be the favorites going into the announcement. There was chatter that Nebraska basketball and Creighton were making a late push. The Huskers need a dynamic scorer to help fill the void left by Keisei Tominaga and Fidler is that.

The former Bellevue, Nebraska standout, entered the portal after averaging 20.1 points per game last season. He averaged 16 during three seasons at Omaha. He averaged 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and shot 35.6 percent from the 3-point range.

Who knows if the delay is good or bad for Nebraska basketball we shall see. The Huskers also hosted former Utah point guard Rollie Worster this weekend. He’s 6-foot-4, and a pass-first point guard. He averaged just under 10 points per game last season and four assists. Worster is a stellar defender and I’d love to see him in a Nebraska basketball uniform.

After blowing a late lead to Rutgers on Friday, Nebraska baseball destroyed the Scarlet Knights on Saturday by a score of 16-1. The Cornhuskers had three different players hit home runs in the win. Case Sanderson was one of those guys with three hits, a home run, and two RBI. Dylan Carey also hammered one out of the park, while Ben Columbus had a homer, a double, and five RBI. Mason McConnaughey limited Rutgers to one run on six hits in seven innings of work to get the win on the mound. He also struck out nine.

Nebraska baseball was in a position to take another Big Ten series in on Sunday, a win that would have kept them tied for first place, but just like on Friday, the Huskers bullpen squandered a lead. This one was a 3-1 advantage in the fourth inning. But it was a tough day for the pitching staff. Starter Drew Christo made it just two innings. Will Walsh got the loss after allowing three runs and five hits. Carey had another homer in the loss for the Cornhuskers who are 22-10 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten (one game behind Illinois).

The Nebraska softball team suffered a loss on Friday, but bounced back with a 13-5 win on Saturday in just six innings. On Sunday, Peyton Cody drove home the game-winning run in the eighth. Samantha Bland doubled in two runs in the sixth to send the game into extra innings and help Nebraska, which is dealing with a ton of injuries, most notably to star pitcher Jordy Bahl. The Cornhuskers are 8-3 in the conference (4th) and 25-16 overall.
