Colorado State missed on a chance to throw the Mountain West Conference race into chaos on Wednesday night when the Rams failed to stop No. 11 UNLV after taking an early seven-point lead and follow up on a 17-point victory over then-No. 13 San Diego State. ''In 2 minutes, our lead was gone,'' Colorado State coach Tim Miles said after the Rams lost 82-63 to the Runnin' Rebels. ''We gave them three possessions without touching the ball,'' Miles said. Wes Eikmeier led Colorado State with 18 points, while Dorian Green scored 15 - 10 in the first half and seven during the initial run that had the UNLV fans uneasy. Colorado State (14-7, 3-3) came within two points by scoring the first 11 points of the second half, but the Rebels responded with a 15-4 spurt that put the game out of reach. Oscar Bellfield appears to have his shot back, as he and Chace Stanback each scored 16 points. Bellfield was 4 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line in matching a season-high for points he set earlier this season against then-No. 1 North Carolina. ''Oscar needed it for Oscar but more importantly, his teammates have confidence in him,'' UNLV coach Dave Rice said. ''He's continued to have confidence.'' Bellfield is shooting 44.4 percent over his last three games after making just five field goals combined during his previous three games - including a 1-for-12 performance against San Diego State, then ranked 22nd, to start Mountain West play. ''He's back making the shots he's capable of,'' Rice said. Anthony Marshall and Mike Moser scored 13 points each for the Rebels (21-3, 5-1). Moser fell two rebounds shy of a double-double, ending a four-game personal streak for the reigning conference player of the week. UNLV fell behind 19-12 nearly 7 minutes into the game, then went on a 20-2 run over the next 8 minutes to take a 32-21 lead. ''We got off to a rough start,'' Rice said. ''We picked up our defensive intensity.'' With the game tied at 19, Reggie Smith pulled up for a long 3-pointer to give the Rebels the lead for good, one possession after missing two free throws. UNLV shot 50 percent for the game with 27 fast-break points and 17 points off turnovers. ''Colorado State had our full attention,'' Rice said. The Rams ended up with 12 turnovers compared with eight assists, and were outrebounded 39-28. Colorado State shot 41.1 percent, 46.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line. The Rebels' reserves scored 20 points, led by Quintrell Thomas with nine in 17 minutes. The teams observed a moment of silence before the game to honor former UNLV coach Charlie Spoonhour, who died Wednesday at 72.
