The Ohio State basketball team is still looking to fill one scholarship to round out its roster. They have been very active in the transfer portal, most recently landing Sean Stewart from Duke. He’s a former five-star recruit and becomes the second former five-star recruit to transfer to Ohio State after Aaron Bradshaw from Kentucky.

There is one scholarship left. So what are the Buckeyes looking for? They seem to have gotten what they want on the big-man front with Stewart. They could still use a forward who can shoot from outside. Outside shooting is something that could be a struggle with the Buckeyes next season.

The Ohio State basketball team will likely grab a guard from the portal

A guard is most likely where the Buckeyes will go. They have reached out to a few guards in the past few weeks but have missed out on a few. They are still looking for outside shooting. Jake Diebler knows that’s how this team is going to be more dangerous next season since that skill was almost non-existent last season.

I do think that the Buckeyes ultimately grab a backup guard in the portal to take up that final spot. The problem is that good three-point shooters are hard to find at this stage of the portal process. With the portal now closed, the Ohio State basketball team is kind of stuck with what’s available.

Someone like Jamir Watkins would be perfect though. He’s a forward with a wealth of experience who can score the ball. He averaged 15.6 points per game last year for Florida State and shot over 45% from the field. Watkins is an average three-point shooter though, which could be an issue.

Whoever the Buckeyes grab for that final spot is someone who should see a little bit of playing time this season. They may not be a stud though.
