Freshman Steven Adams had the best game of his young career with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Pittsburgh rolled over Bethune-Cookman 89-40 in the largest win in Peterson Events Center history Saturday night.
J.J. Moore had 18 points for the Panthers (10-1) and was 8 of 12 from the field. Talib Zanna and Lamar Patterson also put 11 points on the board each as Pitt connected on 67.3 percent (37 of 55) of its shots.
A week after Pitt dominated North Florida 89-47, the Panthers opened a big lead near the end of the second half Saturday. Patterson put Pitt up 27-21 with a layup with 6:40 left in the half, sparking a 20-5 scoring run that took the Panthers into halftime up 44-24. The strong first reversed Pitt's season-long trend of slow starts.
Bethune-Cookman (4-8) was outrebounded 40-11, and scored just 16 second-half points on 5-of-20 shooting.
