With their second pick in the lottery Portland went big with Illinois big man Meyers Leonard. Portland does need a big center thanks to the failure of Greg Oden. I would have taken North Carolina’s Tyler Zeller here more ready for the NBA game. Leonard will take a while to develop. Leonard has been flying up the draft boards ever after the season ended. Leonard improved a ton after a so so freshman season. Leonard has great size, strength, and athletic ability. This past season Leonard adding a mid range jump shot to his skills. He does have a nice touch around the basket. Leonard is only going to get better in the future. He is still very inconsistent and disappears at times. Meyers Leonard, Illinois Height: 7-1. Weight: 245. Year: So. Projected Selection: late lottery-early 20s. ’11-’12: 13.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.9 bpg, 58.4 FG%, 73.2 FT% Follow me on twitter @ScottBasketball!/ScottBasketballAlso like the Roundballchat site on facebook. http://ww...

Outlook good for rising prospect

Inconspicuous, he is not. Meyers Leonard grinned sheepishly as he ducked his head to exit an eatery inside Philadelphia's 30th Street Station. As he crossed the massive foyer, necks swiveled. Whispers grew. "He must be 7-feet tall," a woman within earshot said. The NBA draft profile has Leonard listed at 7-foot-tall. In case there were any questions as to whether...

Meyers Leonard Drafted By Portland

The Fighting Illini basketball team produced it's first lottery pick for the NBA draft since Deron Williams when the Portland Trailblazers selected Meyers Leonard with the 11th pick in the 2012 draft. Leonard was on hand to hear the good news.

Lillard, Leonard both might be starters for Blazers next season

The Trail Blazers' draft picks at No. 6 and 11 were predictable and at the same time logical and well-placed. Talent and need intersected perfectly. Time will tell, but it has the makings of a draft that is at worst solid, at best outstanding. Portland chose Weber State point guard Damian Lillard with the sixth pick and took Illinois center Meyers Leonard with the 11th selection...

Illini Meyers Leonard going 14th to Milwaukee Bucks tonight?

Meyers Leonard to the Milwaukee Bucks at #14 in tonight’s NBA Draft. That’s what we’re hearing.  It makes sense, as Milwaukee is now sans Andrew Bogut and desperately needs a big even though they just acquired Samuel Dalembert (Dalembert is in the final year of his contract though so the Bucks could allow Leonard to develop for a year which would certainly be to his benefit...

Trail Blazers have interesting draft with Lillard and Leonard

The Portland Trail Blazers made an interesting splash in the 2012 NBA Draft taking a point guard from a mid-major school that few people had heard off, and a project pick at center. They took Damian Lillard at #6 from Weber St. and a guy who played for someone named Weber in Meyers Leonard from the Illini at #11. Also following many predictions, the Blazers filled another need, getting a big man, 7'0 sophomore Meyers Leonard out of Illinois with the eleventh pick.
